You may have
noticed that we’ve already begun counting down the months until
our Annual Vendors’ Night. It’s not too early to reserve a
table; an application has been in this newsletter. Please pass
this application to anyone you think may consider participating.
Most of you
know that this event was pioneered by our friend, colleague and
mentor, SCECA’s late Pres., William F. Gubing Jr. Since Bill’s
passing, I have tried to remember him in the November issue of
The Light. It’s always a bittersweet experience, bringing a
smile to my lips, and a lump in my throat. I’ve just recently
begun “restoring” a redwood picnic table and bench set, which we
built together from scratch. (I was the “helper.”) It would
probably be easier and cheaper to simply replace the set, but
‘still waters run deep.’ And speaking of still waters, I missed
our last General Meeting for a fishing trip to Ga.: The trout
were huge and took the fly eagerly. Bill would have enjoyed it,
and yes, I “saved a big one for him.” As time passes, fond
memories remain.

Finally, we
are pleased to feature a previously unsung SCECA hero.
Kings
Park Firefighter & EMT Greg Smith is commended
thanks to an excerpt from a local weekly Smithtown paper.
Congratulations, Greg!
