EDITORIAL

So is winter finally coming to an end? We've worked through it or around it, but like the economy, it has taken its toll on most of us. Add to that the political climate, sprinkle in skyrocketing fuel prices, and we have a recipe for problems. An Oriental culture, perhaps the Chinese, have a symbol which means both danger and opportunity. My reasoning here is simplistic, but it suggests hope for the future.

The cover of January 2003 E C & M features an article, "Breaking and Entering the Security Market." I'm not urging our members to begin a second career. However, whether you're "bullish" or "bearish" with the stock market, diversity is the key. So why should your business depend on only one aspect of the electrical business. Maybe it's high time to diversify. As we approach our deadline, I received literature from SUNY Farmingdale regarding a solar energy seminar, April 11.

We hope that this year's Trade Show will help "shake the cabin fever!" Mini classes will be offered, along with displayed products and services, which may help you and your business to diversify. I wish we had a product to slash the cost of fuel for your truck, or fossil fuel for heating your home or office. But if we can provide you with ideas to keep your business afloat, and increase revenue, at least you'll be able to pay the gas or oil bill.

In addition to the Vendors and drawings, the mini classes, referenced above, will include presentations on LIPA's revised Redbook, and National Electric Code by Joe Striano. All and all, we have a great slate lined up for you, and look forward to your participation. The pipe bending contest may become the next Olympic event!
