| TAX TIPS
FOR ELECTRICIANS |
Stuart A.
Sinclair, CPA
(516) 935-2086 |
|
There are penalties for filing your federal personal
income taxes late if you are not on a legitimate
extension. The penalty is 5% of the tax due for each
month or fraction thereof that the return is late. The
maximum penalty is 25% of the tax due.
If the delinquency is
due to fraud, the penalty goes up to 15% per month, up to
a maximum of 75%. If you file the forms on time, but
don’t pay the tax on time, the penalty is only ˝ of 1% of
the tax due for each month you are late, up to a maximum
of 25%.
Both penalties may
apply at the same time, but the 5% a month penalty will be
reduced by the ˝ of 1% penalty during the first 5 months,
making the penalty in a non-fraud case 47.5 %.
As always, we
recommend that any questions regarding accounting and
taxes be directed to Stuart.
