As I did, some of you may have
received a solicitation from a mail order electrical supplier
from Florida. The price for a GFI receptacle was about half the
going rate at most local supply houses. My gut instinct and
experience tells me that this may be another case of “too good
to be true.” But let’s take it a step further. In this
newsletter and at our meetings and functions, our local
suppliers support us and provide quality service and parts. Can
this be ignored for the price of a discounted, no-name part?
What happens if you’re called back to replace this part? You’ve
lost your savings, and perhaps the confidence of your customer.
What’s worse, you may “burn your bridge” with the supplier that
has helped you out in a pinch. In case you were wondering, my
mailer will be picked up by Islip town when recycled paper is
collected. On the rare occasion where I’ve experienced a
prematurely failed device, it’s been cheerfully replaced. In
fact, Jon Werner was helpful “above and beyond the call” when I
needed some support with a Leviton product.

SCECA is in the process of
organizing a fun-filled outing for the entire family to a L.I.
Ducks baseball game. Group rates will apply, so the cost should
be reasonable. If you have any interest in this venue, please
let us know. Contact our recording secretary at the General
Meeting, or leave a message at the SCECA Office by calling (631)
361-7474. Let’s look forward to a great group outing.
Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing you at the next General
Meeting or the local supply house.
