EDITORIAL
Without perusing past editorials,
I’m certain I’ve touched on the topics of family and safety.
This being our January edition of The Light, I’m inclined to
repeat the obvious. One of the four hallmarks of SCECA is
Safety. That said, by the nature of our profession, most of us
have “war stories” of near-misses. (The term near-miss sounds
like a hit to me, if not a direct one. But as airplane folks
tell us, any landing from which you can walk away is a good
one.)
Please consider “family” as my first topic. That’s far and away
the reason most of us do what we do. Sometimes we lose sight of
that goal when we wrestle with a job or estimate taking longer
than we expect. But if we do not make safety Job One, we may
literally be unable to celebrate the fruit of our labor with our
loved ones, our family. Please make one New Year’s resolution:
Make Safety your priority as well as those who work for or with
you. And don’t look the other way when another trade on a job
site is being unsafe. Being proactive can only make conditions
safer for you and those with whom you work. Happy, Healthy, Safe
New Year from your SCECA Board, Officers and Editor!

The segue here is that Pres. Jack
Morrell is spearheading another OSHA class in the next few
months. Details will be published as they become available. In
addition, Seminar Chair Tom Palk is working on a NEC Code
Seminar covering 2002 & 2005 in the near future. If place and
date are confirmed, a flyer will be inserted in this issue of
The Light. Please read “Mark Your Calendars” for additional
information.
