TAX TIPS FOR ELECTRICIANS

Stuart A. Sinclair, CPA
(516) 935-2086

There can be quite a difference in the amount of depreciation you can deduct, depending on whether you purchased your equipment during 2004 or 2005.  In 2004, the bonus depreciation is 50% of the cost of the equipment.  In 2005, there is no longer a 50% bonus depreciation.  However, as long as you didn’t purchase over $102,000 of equipment, there is a section 179 depreciation deduction in either 2004 or 2005 of up to $102,000 that will cover you anyway.  You will only start to lose on the bonus depreciation on purchases above the $102,000, unless the equipment you buy is not section 179 property.

As always, we recommend that any questions regarding accounting and taxes be directed to Stuart.
