EDITORIAL
We hope you were
able to participate in our Roundtable Codes Forum. Suffolk
County’s Consumer Affairs Director Charles Gardner and Licensing
Director William Baessler were instrumental in arranging for
speakers from the State level, (the Dept. of State’s Electrical
Code chairman came down from Kingston), as well as
representatives from building and fire marshals offices from
Suffolk townships. All of us braved the elements on Wednesday,
March 23, and, following the "fire drill," enjoyed a healthy
exchange of information.
As I stated in
my opening remarks, it would have been a bit idealistic to
presume this session could resolve all of our difficulties.
However, a clearer understanding of codes, (building and
electrical), as they apply to electrical contractors in Suffolk
County, was achieved. We are grateful to Chairman Tom Palk, his
committee, and all those who participated. (see
pictures)

In the media
there is an expression referred to as a "slow news day." That’s
when there are more human interest stories that may otherwise
never make the tv screen or newspaper. This issue of The Light
is quite to the contrary. We ask that you take notice of
correspondence from the County’s Director of Consumer Affairs,
LIPA’s Trade Ally news, and an electrical human interest (true)
story from your editor. Of particular interest, we include a bit
of history, submitted by founding member Hugo Surdi.

As I compose
this editorial, there are ten days remaining until our Vendors’
Night Trade Show. It’s "crunch time" for your Board, Officers
and especially Steve Nerwinski and his committee. A successful
show helps our loyal vendors and your Association. We hope you
were able to attend; that itself is a compliment to Steve and
his crew, and an endorsement of SCECA’s programs. The show helps
to defray some of the costs of running a full slate of SCECA
programs and activities for you, our members.
